A Work In Progress
This month you will come across many articles encouraging to change, set goals, start a fresh, make a list of resolutions.
We are so charged up that we set ourselves monumental tasks eg. loose 20 kilo’s, become the M.D., clear all the clutter in the house and learn to speak Chinese before March.
By the end of January you are emotionally exhausted by these unrealistic expectations which have only served to lower your morale and self- esteem.
Forget resolutions – what do you aspire to be, to achieve and to attain in 2008?
It is not about trying to make changes once a year-it is about continuous growth and improvement because what you are is: “A Work in Progress”
“We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us”
Joseph Campbell
Follow these 10 action steps to achieve and to attain your dreams and aspirations -
Find yourself a quiet corner, a notebook, a pen and:

  1. Write down your aspirations, dreams, desires. Don’t limit your imagination-dream BIG. Remember – God’s plan for you is bigger than any dream you have.
  2. There is a life you dream to live. To experience that life, become the person who will live it. If the circumstances of your life are not yet what you desire, there is a reason. It is because you have not yet become the person you desire to become.
  3. Give thanks for, rather than resenting the ordinary life you think you have. Write 5 things you are grateful for each day.
  4. Write a list of changes and how you would set out to practically achieve them. Prioritise these changes - is it more important for you to learn to say no to others or to swim 20 laps each morning?
  5. Make choices that will lead to changes. One year from now you could be living your dream! However this involves choosing your destiny between now and then-how? By making 365 tiny choices along the way – these tiny choices lead to tiny changes ...
  6. You cannot directly control everything in the world around you, but there is no need for that anyway. By controlling your own thoughts, feelings and actions, you can bring about anything you truly desire.
  7. Have courage to take action. Change the old – old issues, old patterns, old guilt. This may require you to make changes or take action that others may not like. Be courageous in your beliefs eg terminating energy sapping relationships.
  8. Discover your talents by noting in which areas people compliment you more often. This will help you to discover your abilities and areas of aptitude. Once you know what they are, practice them more often and you will find success no matter what you do.
  9. Figure out your daily purpose in life. By finding out what comes more naturally you will discover your larger job in life. It’s not a task, per say, but a gift that you are meant to share with others.
  10. Face your Fears. Remember FEAR stands for False Evidence Appearing Real. If your biggest fear (next to death) is public speaking-sign up for a course. Confident leaders are confident speakers-these skills can be learned.
“Only when we are no longer afraid do we begin to live.”
Dorothy Thompson
